So, I have had it come to me more than once over the last couple of weeks: My walk with God needs become more intimate, more personal. As Joyce Meyer said at the Hillsong Conference 2012, “Your relationship with God needs to be like a marraige”
In todays current world, the only time we ever talk to God is when we want something. But do we ever give back to Him? Not really no. And that is where we need to change.
Tonight I read Job 1 – 5. And two verses really stood out for me:
“Can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone be pure before the Creator?” (NLT)
“People are born for trouble as readily as sparks fly up from a fire.” (NLT)
It makes you think a bit – no one in this world is 100% good. Everyody sins, and everybody is essentially doomed. It is only by the Grace of God that we are forgiven and saved.
It is not God’s will to let us suffer. As a leader said yesterday at our Young Adults Breakfast: “God does not want us to worry. But when it comes to worldly things we often buy worry”. We purchase it, we bring it into our own lives, not God. We purchase items on credit, we create our own debt. Not God. And the reason we do this is because we are not content. In order for us to feel content, we often feel that we need to buy this, or buy that. Because we think it will make us happy. When in actual fact to be content, we need first need to learn to be content with ourselves. We need to accept ourselves as who and what we are. We need to be grateful for what we have, not live in anticipation of the things we want.
No one is pure, no one is innocent, and the only way to start correcting that is by seeking God. And the only way to be fully content is not just to be pleased with ourselves, but we need to be please with ourselves in God.
